(a) To obtain a motor number assigned by the department, the owner of a motor vehicle that has had the original motor number removed, erased, or destroyed must file a sworn application with the department.(b) The department shall maintain a record of each motor number assigned by the department that includes:(1) the motor number assigned by the department;(2) the name and address of the owner of the motor vehicle; and(3) the make, model, and year of manufacture of the motor vehicle.
