(a) A county assessor-collector commits an offense if the county assessor-collector knowingly accepts an application for the registration of a motor vehicle that:(1) has had the original motor number or vehicle identification number removed, erased, or destroyed; and(2) does not bear a motor number or vehicle identification number assigned by the department.(b) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $10 and not more than $50.
