Purpose The purpose of the District is to provide for the treatment and management of solid waste generated or disposed of within the geographical boundaries of member municipalities (the members) in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and 10 V.S.A. chapter 159 (waste management), 24 V.S.A. chapter 117 (municipal and regional planning and development), and 24 V.S.A. chapter 121 (intermunicipal cooperation and services). The means of treatment and management may include land disposal, recycling, and transportation. The District is not organized nor shall it function for the purpose of treating or disposing of hazardous waste.
