Unless the taken lands are purchased or given, compensation for the lands shall be determined by the Transportation Board, as in other cases, and made by the railroad corporation to the owners and persons interested in the lands. When compensation is made, the same shall become part of the highway, and may be held for highway purposes, and the landowners and railroad corporation shall have the same right of appeal as in other cases of land damages.
