U.S. Virgin Islands § 101 — U.S. Virgin Islands law

Subject to the limitation of this chapter and notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the Government of the United States Virgin Islands shall indemnify and pay on the behalf of any police officer, corrections officer, Virgin Islands marshal and probation officer of the Superior Court employed by the Government, or member of the police auxiliary (which member has been ordered to duty by the Police Commissioner, pursuant to Title 23, section 1156, Virgin Islands Code, or has been ordered to perform other duties, as prescribed by the Governor, pursuant to Title 23, section 1157, Virgin Islands Code) sums which such employee becomes obligated to pay by reason of the liability imposed upon such employee by law or settlement for damages awarded for infringement of any person's civil rights or for physical damages to person or property if the employee at the time of the occurrence, accident, physical injury or damages complained of was acting under color of law and within the scope of his employment, or while acting as a police officer and if such occurrence, accident, physical injury or damage was not the result of any willful or wanton act of such employee and the
