U.S. Virgin Islands § 1151 — U.S. Virgin Islands law

(a) In order to achieve the purposes of this chapter, the Director shall conduct programs for energy research, development, demonstration and commercial application with the general goals of-\n(1) increasing the efficiency of all energy intensive sectors through conservation and improved technologies;\n(2) promoting diversity of energy supplies;\n(3) decreasing the dependency of the Virgin Islands on imported fossil fuel energy supplies; and\n(4) improving energy security of the Virgin Islands.\n(b) In carrying out this chapter, the Director shall implement programs and publish reports that provide for:\n(1) Energy efficiency for buildings, energy-consuming industries, and vehicles;\n(2) Electric energy generation, transmission and storage; and\n(3) Renewable energy technologies, including wind power, photovoltaics, solar thermal systems, geothermal energy, biomassed systems, hydrogen-fuelled systems, biofuels and hydropower.\n(c) In the preparation of the reports identified in subsection (b) the Director shall solicit input from industry, institutions of higher education, and other public sources.
