U.S. Virgin Islands § 661 — U.S. Virgin Islands law

Whoever escapes from the custody of the Police Commissioner or his authorized representative, or from any jail in which he is confined, or from any custody under or by virtue of any process issued under the laws of the Virgin Islands by any court, judge, or commissioner, or from the custody of any officer or employee of the Virgin Islands pursuant to lawful arrest, shall—\n(1) if the custody or confinement is by virtue of an arrest on a charge of felony, or conviction of any offense, be fined not more than $2,000 or imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both; or\n(2) if the custody or confinement is for extradition or by virtue of an arrest or charge of or for a misdemeanor, and prior to conviction therefor, be fined not more than $500 or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
