Whoever—\n(1) practices any fraud or deceit on; or\n(2) knowingly makes or exhibits any false statement, representation, token or writing to—\nany witness, or person about to be called as a witness, upon any trial, proceeding, inquiry or investigation authorized by law, shall be fined not more than $200 or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
