As used in this chapter 'automatic external defibrillator', or 'AED,' means a device that has received approval of its pre-market notification by the United States Food and Drug Administration pursuant to 21 U.S.C. § 301 et seq., and is: capable of recognizing the presence or absence of ventricular fibrillation or rapid tachycardia; capable of determining, without intervention by an operator, whether defibrillation should be performed; and upon making such determination, automatically charges and requests delivery of an electrical impulse to individual's heart.
