(a) Any animal found running at large, or tied on public property, or on private property without the consent of the owner of the property, shall be taken up by animal wardens and impounded in an animal shelter, and shall be confined for disposition in accordance with the further provisions of this subchapter.\n(b) Notice shall be given to the owner of any licensed or registered animal by the best available means as to where it is impounded, and that it shall be impounded for a period of five (5) days and thereafter disposed of in accordance with law unless the animal is claimed within that period. If the animal is unlicensed or unregistered, or if the owner thereof is unknown and cannot be located within the Virgin Islands, notice to the effect specified above shall be posted for at least three (3) days in at least four (4) commonly frequented places on the island where the animal was found.\n(c) Any animal found running at large, if not already branded, tagged, or tattooed, shall be branded, tagged or tattooed on a conspicuous part of its body with an identification or marking at the discretion of the Commissioner, or his designated agent.
