(a) When the person complained of is brought before the judge, if the charge is controverted he shall take the testimony in relation thereto and the evidence shall be reduced to writing and subscribed by the witness. The judge shall issue subpoenas for witnesses for the complainant and for the person complained of. The person complained of is entitled, if he chooses, to make a statement concerning the charges against him.\n(b) The judge may adjourn the examination and commit the person complained of, or admit him as in other criminal actions.
